PhD student Huan Ting Ong presented her work to a recent international tissue engineering conference in Brisbane.
This conference was the annual Asia Pacific Chapter meeting of the Tissue Engineering & Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS) and the Australasian Society for Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering.
Attended by researchers, clinicians and industry members, the congress focused on the development and application of biomaterials, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Ting was thrilled to represent Ear Science at the conference, and was one of only a handful of West Australian attendees.
“My poster presented my recent exciting findings on stem cell gene expression in low oxygen versus normal oxygen levels,” said Ting.
“The aim of this research is to find the environment in which stem cells can best promote wound healing in the eardrum.”
“I received a lot of interest from other researchers within the field. There were lots of opportunities for exchanging ideas in current and future research, and I made new connections with scientists from Queensland, Malaysia, China, Taiwan and Melbourne.”
“I also learnt a lot of new techniques and concepts that can be incorporated into my research at Ear Science. There are a number of exciting new technologies available that could really push my research forward.”
“It was a very valuable experience for me to network and learn, as well as seeing the exciting direction this research can take in the future.”
