A whole new way to ‘try before you buy’: the future of testing hearing aids

Two Lions Hearing Clinics audiologists waited with anticipation as European hearing aid manufacturer, Unitron, unveiled their latest innovation to a global audience in Amsterdam.
Audiologists Jordan Bishop and Siew Moon Lim were among the first to hear about Discover, a virtual reality-like platform where patients can test out their hearing aids in different real-world situations.
With Flex technology, patients can experience what it’s like to listen to voicemails, hear birds chirp, chat with your friends at the pub, and even hear live music, allowing Lions Hearing Clinic to remove the mystery for clients when purchasing new hearing aids.
The Engage conference, which ran in Amsterdam from 16th-17th May, focused on disruptive technology and innovation in hearing.
Audiologist Jordan Bishop says it is invaluable to have a finger firmly on the pulse of new hearing technology.
“Getting to participate in this important conversation about the future of our industry is definitely a highlight of 2019.
This was a global event and allowed us a fantastic opportunity to meet audiologists and audiometrists from all over the world.”
Jordan and Siew-moon will now implement their learnings into the clinics.
Ear Science Institute Australia is heavily involved in global discussions. Our researchers regularly share our own findings, while our Audiologists go to international conferences every year to bring learnings back to our clinics in Perth.
